WEAVING IN ILOCOS

One of the best things known in the Philippines is their culture and traditions. Even we, Filipinos ourselves, know that our country is rich in cultures that we have been preserving for so long. We are known to be one of those countries that are well known for our heritage and background. We have this diverse series of cultures that hold different focuses and specialties that mostly differ in areas in our country. From the materials that we do, up to the sceneries that we have, all these are treasures of our heritage.

Among all cultures that we uphold, there is one that gets the eyes of many. It is the culture of weaving. From the region of Ilocos, in the northern part of the Philippines, the home of Abel is located.

Weaving in the Philippines is not only a form of art for the native Filipinos but also a part of living for many. This specific attribute is traced back way before the Spanish colonization. When the Spanish first colonized the Ilocos Region in the 1500s, locals were already trading woven blankets. This specific act represents that weaving is a heritage made by our tribes, and with it, we have made a product that we can surely call our own.
